January 12, 2018: The Yale Glee Club performed in State College on Friday, January 12, 2018 as part of their winter tour. The Glee Club happened to be touring our region, because Mahima Kumara ‘20, currently a sophomore at Yale and the co-manager for the Glee Club’s winter tour, is from State College. (Mahima is seen playing piano in the photo below.)
The performance was open to the local community and admission was free. Music flowed at the State College High School in a joint concert with State College High School Master Singers. The concert began in a traditional vein with “Gaudeamus Igitur” (a traditional student song often sung at graduations) and Brahms. What followed was a smorgasbord of choral music. There were American spirituals, a Mayan warrior chants, and a Civil War song. There were recent compositions, as wells world music with origins in South Africa, Israel, and Persia. Even a madrigal. Featured composers and texts were just as diverse. The concert concluded with Yale songs including Bright College Years.
