August 31, 2018: This was a good year for summer parties in Central PA, even though the weather did not cooperate. We held 2 events in 2 cities, and helped about 40 other Yale Clubs from as far away as Russia hold Camp Yale events. For more about Camp Yale Emeritus see campyale.net, its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CampYaleEmeritus/ and its Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/campyale/. Here are the Central Pennsylvania parties.
On June 30, Charlie Hickok ’70 and his wife Maaike, had a get-together at their home just north of Harrisburg, in Fishing Creek Valley. I was far too hot and humid for the planned garden party, but sixteen gathered for a delightful dinner, and we got to see some of Charlie’s and Maaike’s own art work.
The Class of 1970 was having a series of regional get-togethers to collectively celebrate turning seventy, so a special effort was made to invite alumni from ’69, ’70, and ’71. Charlie was joined by two other members of ’70, and Club President Mike Kline ’71 was there as well.
On August 31, Don Mann ’94 and Trex Proffitt ’89, had organized an evening at the John Wright Restaurant in Wrightsville, PA, between York and Lancaster. (Sorry no photos.) Unfortunately, torrential rains kept most of the regulars away, but four hardy Yalies managed to brave the monsoons and flooded roads to an evening of convivial conversation.
